How long should a Pilates session be? Another question we get asked often inside our Online Pilates and Yoga Studio.
There really is no one definite answer. There are so many variables, it all depends on, what are your fitness goals? What are your life commitments? How much time do you have available? Do you do any other exercise and what’s on your current workout schedule?
This is why we ensure to make classes of ALL time lengths available inside MerryBody Online Studio.
Here’s the perfect example! During this 5 minute Booty Burning class, you will get your heart rate pumping and muscles working in just 2 minutes! Talk about high intensity!
Then we also have classes up to 30 minutes and we suggest ‘class stacks’ for those who want an even longer workout.
The thing is, the best Pilates class for you, no matter the time length, is the class that you do!
You’re better off scheduling and ticking off that 10 minute Pilates session 5 times a week, instead of thinking you need to do at least 45 minutes of Pilates and only ticking it off once a month.
Since its invention, by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, the Pilates workout has evolved. There are many varieties to choose from, you’ve got Classical, Reformer, Fusion style and mat Pilates to name a few.
The thing we love most about mat Pilates is how easy it is to fit into a busy schedule and how easy it is to do in the comfort of your own home.
It really is one of the best home workout options available because all you need is your Pilates mat (or just some space!), a great online class and your amazing body!
What are the benefits of Pilates?
We already mentioned that it is an amazing form of exercise to do at home but there are so many others!
Increase core strength
You don’t need to be stuck in a gym pumping iron for your strength training. Pilates will in fact increase total body strength, however, there is an emphasis on the core within Pilates moves.
We’re not just talking about the 6 pack here, your core is in fact the deep muscles of the back, abdomen, and pelvic floor. And oh wow, Pilates really does strengthen each and every one of these muscle groups.
And sure, this will lead to a toned tummy but more importantly, these muscles support a strong and supple back. When the core is strong, your back is supported, meaning back injuries are prevented.
Promote better posture
Better posture would absolutely be another benefit of Pilates.
As your core gets stronger, you will find it easier to hold proper posture, your shoulders and neck will also relax. Pilates is the perfect exercise for you if you find yourself slouching at a desk a little too often.
Cardio and heart health
Although Pilates is not traditionally an aerobic exercise, in our MerryBody Pilates exercises you’ll feel your heart rate pumping.
We add speed in many classes and not only does this ensure a diverse workout, you’ll also have fun!
Release feel good hormones
Speaking of fun! Any kind of movement and exercise will get your body pumping dopamine,
oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins. It’s also known to reduce anxiety, fatigue, and depressive symptoms!
Increase flexibility
Within a Pilates class, you will work on stretching and strengthening your muscles at the same time. And it is the combination of both stretch and strength that will increase your range of motion.
If you’re ready to create your own Pilates practice, why not start with this FREE 5 Day Pilates and Yoga Program. Each day you’ll be sent a 10 minute class that you can do at home.
