Summer is coming for us in the Southern Hemisphere so it’s time to get excited about refreshing fruity smoothies! And this Kiwi Berry Banana Smoothie Bowl Recipe is on our breakfast to-make lists.
Once upon a time, we were petrified of bananas, apples, oranges… really all fruit. We were scared of the high natural sugar and fructose content. We were scared because of the I Quit Sugar craze. And yes, this way of living has a great place in the world, it’s important when we think about everyone’s health BUT as we’ve come to realise all diets also find their place in the land of ‘Diet Culture’. And this land can get very toxic, especially if you have a history of disorderly eating.
“Diet culture refers to a rigid set of expectations about valuing thinness and attractiveness over physical health and emotional well-being. Diet culture often emphasizes “good” versus “bad” foods, focuses on calorie restriction, and normalizes self-deprecating talk. Diet culture is toxic, and it can be a risk factor for body dysmorphia, disordered eating, and other mental health issues.” Nicole Artz
This is why we don’t diet anymore. This is why we eat an abundance of fruits. This is why we eat bananas! This is why we eat pasta now!
We’re so glad to be over our obsessiveness with being thin. We’re so glad we allowed ourselves to enjoy food again and let go of restrictive eating. Now we go out and enjoy food without all the guilt and anxiety. Now, we exercise for the fun of it, to feel good, to feel strong and energised.
How did we do this? It was a huge mindset shift. It was learning more about diet culture and questioning WHY we thought the way we thought, why we thought we were not good enough (hello looking at you, magazine covers of the 90s and 2000s and still today but we don’t pay any attention to them!).
So, go and enjoy this Kiwi Berry Banana Smoothie Bowl Recipe.
Always merrymaking,
